Very Fast Websites

Fast websites help customers see what you offer and take the next step without waiting for a slow page to get out of their way.

People do not visit a business website to admire a loading screen. I build pages to appear quickly, respond quickly, and stay useful on phones and slower connections as well as fast desktop internet.

What it does

The page is prepared before the visitor arrives, so the browser can display it without waiting for a general-purpose website platform to assemble it from a database, theme, and stack of plugins.

Images are sized for the screen, code is kept lean, fonts and third-party tools are handled carefully, and important content is given priority.

Why it matters for your business

A faster website gives customers less time to lose patience, especially when they are comparing businesses, travelling, or using a phone with an ordinary connection. It also gives search engines a stronger technical foundation when they assess the page experience.

Speed cannot make unclear copy or a weak offer persuasive, but it removes an avoidable barrier between the customer and the business.

What the research says

Google’s mobile-site research, using March 2016 benchmark data, found that 53% of people left a mobile site when it took more than three seconds to load. The same report found average bounce rates of 13% for pages loading in under three seconds, rising to almost 60% after nine seconds.

Google and SOASTA’s 2017 analysis also found that the probability of a bounce increased by 32% as page load time moved from one second to three seconds. These are broad research findings rather than a guaranteed result for any individual business, but they show why a page that appears broken or unavailable can lose a customer before its content arrives.

Measured before launch

I test performance before launch and build ordinary pages to load in under three seconds under practical conditions. Where public PageSpeed results are available, portfolio pages show the measured scores so people can check them.

Results can change when advertising scripts, embedded booking systems, video, analytics, or other third-party services are added. I keep those trade-offs visible instead of promising that every page will always produce the same score.

What clients get

Clients get a website designed for speed from the beginning, checked across phone and desktop sizes, and kept as simple as the job allows.
